Night frost causes serious damage to crops in Brest region
Frost on the night between May 14 and 15, an extremely rare phenomenon at this time of year, killed or damaged as much as 1,852 hectares of crops in the Gantsevichi district, Brest region.
The district agriculture department says that the frost devastated 564 hectares of corn, 394 hectares of spring grain, 320 hectares of winter rape, 257 hectares of sugar beet, 25 hectares of vegetables and
some areas under other crops. The damage and the exact amount of the dead and damaged crops are yet to be determined. The plants destroyed by frost will be replaced with annual forage crops and corn, as it is too late to sow spring crops.
