Echelon of Victory welcomed in Brest today

 Today Brest is greeting passengers of the Russian-Belarusian Echelon of Victory, BelTA was informed by head of the ideology department of the Brest oblast executive committee Alexander Rogachuk.

Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, famous public figures, pop stars and artists arrived to the town, a total of over 450 people. The guests were greeted by chair of the Brest oblast executive committee Konstantin Sumar. He, in particular, noted that 60 years before echelons with victors had been welcomed at that very station. The Victory Day is a sacred day. Only together could we defend that enemy, rebuild the country and now we have to make everything possible to efface borders between the two nations.

First deputy mayor of Moscow Liudmila Shvetsova in her speech said that Echelon of Victory was a symbol of memory, its echo. Brest was the first town to rebuff the enemy. We honour the memory of those who were fighting there and today we greet the veterans. Echelon of Victory brought delegations of Moscow veterans of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of the CIS railways, famous people who glorify the feat of the nation in their art.

The railway station became the venue for the concert by best creative companies of Brest oblasts and artists from Moscow. At a ceremony in the memorial compound Brest Fortress – A Hero the guests passed the memorial’s executives Victory Banner where it will be kept forever.

Tonight the meeting requiem in the memorial compound Victory is one for all will be attended by president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and mayor of Moscow Yuriy Luzhkov. The ceremony will be followed by a gala concert featuring about 200 Russian and Belarusian pop stars and figures of culture.

Alexander Lukashenko to attend international cultural action “Echelon of Victory – 2005” in memorial compound “Brest fortress-hero”

 May 5 Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko will attend the international public and cultural action “Echelon of Victory – 2005” in the memorial compound “Brest Fortress-Hero”, the president’s press-service told BelTA. Alexander Lukashenko will lay a wreath at the Eternal Flame and visit the museum of the Brest fortress.
